Hopkins and area

Hopkins, Belize – 2014. Hopkins is a small coastal town located a few miles off of the Southern Highway south of Dangriga, Belize. It is a Garifuna settlement created in the early 1940’s after Newtown was destroyed by a hurricane. There are lots of small guesthouses and restaurants that are all rather low key and rustic. Immediately south of Hopkins is Sittee Point and further south, the Sittee River. Settee point has a number of mid and high end resorts, restaurants and dive operators. We stayed at Jaguar Reef Lodge which is at the south end of Hopkins and enjoyed the room, food and helpful staff.
